Have you ever heard of Apologetix? They're a local (i.e., Pittsburgh) band that's been around since the early 90s and have a national fanbase. I discovered their music about 5 years ago and have been hooked ever since.
So, what's their angle you ask? They're a Christian parody band. No, they don't make fun of Christians. They take secular songs (including ones with decidely impure or unpalatable lyrics) and rewrite them into apologetic material. If you're feeling down they'll make you laugh for sure. And most of it is real quality, meaning not just cheese. The only minor concern when I listen to them is that there are moments of Evangelical theology that I obviously don't agree with. But that's easy to ignore, for me at least.
Some of my personal favorites include:
The Real Sin Savior (The Real Slim Shady, Eminem)
Narrow Way to Heaven (Stairway to Heaven, Led Zepplin)
YHWH (YMCA, The Village People) and
Devil Went Down to Jordan (who doesn't know that one? lol)
They cover the charts, from the Beach Boys to Steve Miller to Eminem and Kanye West. If you have some time, watch some videos in youtube and see how you like them. They've added a new perspective to my spiritual life, and I like it. :-)
